Liverpool’s hopes of finishing this season with some form of silverware to show for Jürgen Klopp’s final year at the club hang by a thread, following back-to-back defeats in the Europa League and Premier League. Fans around Europe were left shocked last week, when Serie A side Atalanta took the initiative in the first leg to bag a 3-0 in England. Then, just a few days later, Crystal Palace repeated the trick by claiming a 1-0 win at Anfield, leaving Liverpool’s title hopes in tatters. 

This week football fans witnessed another set of dramatic and eye-catching European quarter-finals, as the best clubs on the continent made their bids to make it to the last four of the Champions League, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League. In the Champions League quarter-finals, there was 32 goals across the eight games in both legs - an average of four goals per game. However for the English teams, and the divisions chances of gaining a fifth Champions League place next season, it was a disastrous week.

Form goes out of the window in a derby, as the old cliche goes. However, that very much hasn't been the case in Merseyside derbies since Jürgen Klopp became Liverpool manager. Klopp has transformed the Reds into one of the best teams in Europe during his nine years at Anfield, whilst Everton have largely been fighting relegation or at least in the bottom half of the table in recent years. And the Merseyside derbies in the last decade have reflected that.

The term “Fergie time” became synonymous with Manchester United during Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure due to their tendency to score crucial goals in stoppage time. The most famous example arrived in the Camp Nou late in May in 1999 when Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both scored during injury time in the second half to break Bayern Munich hearts as United lifted the Champions League. 

Liverpool’s title challenge effectively ended after a devastating 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night. Sean Dyche’s men inflicted a near-fatal blow to their arch rivals’ dream of lifting the Premier League title in Jürgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield. The German manager announced his decision to step down in January to recharge his batteries and take a one-year sabbatical from football.

Liverpool’s season continues to descend into chaos, following a disappointing 2-2 draw against West Ham on Saturday that all but confirmed that Jürgen Klopp’s side are now out of the Premier League title race. As if that wasn’t troubling enough for fans of the Anfield club, a fresh row seems to be brewing between the aforementioned German manager and star striker Mohamed Salah.  After being dropped ahead of the match, the Egyptian international came on with just 11 minutes left to play and offered very little in an attacking sense. When asked about his demotion to the Liverpool bench after the game, Salah told reporters “If I speak, there will be fire” before walking on to the team bus.

Two of the most successful clubs in Champions League history faced off last night tonight in their quest to book their place in the final. It was all square between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich after a 2-2 draw in Germany but Real produced a late comeback in Madrid as Joselu scored twice to cancel out Alphonso Davies' opener. Madrid will meet Borussia Dortmund in the final after the underdogs against PSG produced two stunning performances to win both legs 1-0. 

At times it seems every Premier League club feels they are the hardest done by when it comes to injuries. There have been countless occasions where managers have berated their injury woes in press conferences, and it’s a subject often quoted by fans as to why their clubs haven't been as successful as some would hope.
